SAG Awards Nominations: The Actors Have Spoken

The Screen Actors Guild nominations were just announced on Wednesday morning and I feel like it’s my duty as a pop culture junkie to weigh in on the list, because it’s almost the holidays and I’m getting bored. So humor me, will ya? 🙂 This is also the first year that I’ve actually weighed in on the Screen Actors Guild nominations, so instead of my usual award nominations blog template of “Who I Think Will Win” and “Who I Want To Win”, I’m not going to attempt to predict the winners this time around and just pick my favorites out of the lot. Who knows? Maybe this time I’ll get lucky.

My Favorite: Kind of a toss-up between Bridesmaids and Midnight In Paris, simply because both have such amazing ensemble cast. But ultimately I pick Midnight In Paris because duh, Hemingway and Dali. However, please note I haven’t seen The Descendants yet and might change my mind after I finally see it.

Biggest Snub: Drive. Sure, some people think it’s overrated. Some even try to sue the producers. But let’s face it, it’s the movie that got everyone talking and it deserves some love.

My Favorite: George Clooney, even though I haven’t seen The Descendants yet. He’s Clooney! Of course I’m gonna pick him. And if the SAG voters think the way I do, he’ll probably actually win this.

Biggest Snub: Ryan Gosling. As most women on this planet, I am madly in love with him. It’s bad enough Bradley Cooper beat him as Sexiest Man Alive! Also, Michael Fassbender. I haven’t seen Shame, but critics were blown away by his raw, intense performance and I tend to believe them.

My Favorite: This is also a toss-up between Viola Davis and Tilda Swinton. Seriously, I can’t choose! Okay since Swinton has won an Oscar before and everything, I think I’ll go with Davis.

Biggest Snub: I thought Ellen Barkin was all kinds of fantastic in Another Happy Day, and everyone raved about Carey Mulligan’s performance in Shame (which I haven’t seen). Would have liked to see either of these amazing ladies nominated. Also, I have just seen Martha Marcy May Marlene and Elizabeth Olsen definitely deserves a nomination too. Finally, an Olsen sister who can act!

Best supporting actor

My Favorite: Nick Nolte was surprisingly amazing on Warrior, probably the most underrated movie of 2011. But then again Armie Hammer is… Armie Hammer. No. Must stay strong. Nick Nolte it is!

Biggest Snub: Hmm. Would have liked to see Ezra Miller up there for his chilling performance in We Need To Talk About Kevin, but I suppose he just didn’t get enough screen time in that movie. But, I think the true crime is passing on Seth Rogen who was all shades of amazeballs on 50/50. Sure he still plays a version of himself, but this is the best version of him I’ve seen in years!

My Favorite: Even though both Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer gave amazing performances in The Help, I gotta give this one to Melissa McCarthy, simply because she made me laugh so hard I nearly peed a few times during Bridesmaids. True story.

Biggest Snub: Bryce Dallas Howard. Her portrayal of Hilly Holbrook in The Help was just so dead on. I read the book before I watched the movie, and she was just pitch perfect. I wanted to set her on fire, she was such a nightmare in that movie! Considering that she seems to be a lovely person in real life, that is some great acting right there!

My Favorite: Okay, let’s talk about how BORING this list is. Like NY Mag’s Vulture noted in their SAG Nominations post, it looks like a list from two years ago. The Office hasn’t had a particularly strong season post-Carell and I’m not even sure what The Big Bang Theory is doing there. I would’ve loved to see some of the newer, better comedies get the nod; like the very excellent Happy Endings, or, if it’s just a tad too kooky, how ’bout the always heartwarming Parks and Recreation? And Glee doesn’t even deserve to be nominated. I’m sorry. This year that show has been on a fast decline, culminating in last Tuesday’s insufferable Christmas episode. I’d be happier if it were New Girl that got the nod. So my favorite? Uhm… I guess that just leaves Modern Family?

Biggest Snub: Parks and Recreation, without question. Season 3 was perfection and 4 has been amazing so far, and they chose Glee? Seriously??

My Favorite: Breaking Bad, without question. I don’t watch The Good Wife and Game of Thrones. Boardwalk Empire’s second season isn’t half as good as anyone thinks it is (think about it!) and Dexter is a goner.

Biggest Snub: Homeland. I mean, hands down, best new drama. It’s so good that even President Obama is a fan. Is it because it only just premiered last October? I don’t get it. Also, Sons of Anarchy has had a hell of a season, who does Kurt Sutter have to blow to get a nomination around here, like seriously?

Best actress in a comedy

Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family
Betty White, Hot in Cleveland

My Favorite: Sofia Vergara, still. But if the Emmys were any indication, Julie Bowen would end up the big winner.

Biggest Snub: Where is Amy Poehler? Martha Plimpton? I mean, come on now!

My Favorite: Ty Burrell, but wouldn’t it be cool if Steve Carell wins it for The Office? Maybe he’ll decide to return and we can get rid of awful Robert California forever!

Biggest Snub: I was surprised that Jim Parsons wasn’t nominated, especially after winning back-to-back Emmys.

Best actress in a drama

My Favorite: Jessica Lange, obviously. Crazy Constance is the best thing about American Horror Story, I think.

Biggest Snub: Claire Danes. I mean, after last Sunday’s episode she should’ve had this in the bag. I really don’t get the Homeland snub, I thought actors love this show! Oh and Connie Britton. If you nominate her TV husband (sorry, Dylan McDermott, but she’ll always be Mrs Coach to me), you better nominate her too!

Best actor in a drama

Patrick J. Adams, Suits

My Favorite: First, I just wanna talk about how cool it is that Patrick J. Adams got nominated for Suits. I mean, USA Network shows are usually ignored come awards season, no matter how good the acting or the material can be. It’s almost like the CW in a way. Sure there are exceptions. Sharon Gless got an Emmy nomination for Burn Notice once, and Piper Perabo last year got a nomination for Covert Affairs at the Golden Globes (though the latter felt so random and weird because she wasn’t even that impressive!), but both actresses are pretty established, Gless was in Cagney & Lacey and Perabo was in Coyote Ugly. Adams on the other hand, despite having an extensive resume, hasn’t quite hit the big time yet. He mostly starred in little-seen indie flicks and Suits was his first successful TV show. So for the SAG voters to take notice of this relative unknown who starred in a USA Network show and gave him a nomination is a big deal. Especially since he gets to see his name alongside giants like Brian Cranston, Steve Buscemi and Michael C. Hall. I’ve liked this guy since I saw him in the sweet indie Weather Girl, so I’m really happy for his nomination. My favorite to win remains Kyle Chandler, because it’d just be bittersweet now that Friday Night Lights has ended, the show FINALLY gets the recognition and love it deserves, but a part of me wants Patrick J. Adams to win, not only because it’s a long shot, but because he truly is talented and needs more exposure.

Biggest Snub: Would have loved to see Damian Lewis in the list, his performance in Homeland is just sublime. Seriously, why is this show snubbed? I mean, it premiered earlier than American Horror Story and Jessica Lange got nominated!

Did You Hear About The Emmys?

The Emmy nominations were just announced, and this year, just like last year, I am not utterly disappointed. Sure, the snubs are still pretty frustrating, most notably John Noble for his brilliant work in Fringe (what does a guy has to do to get an Emmy nod around here? Play two characters in one show? Oh, but he does!), but still, the fact that Friday Night Lights is finally nominated for Best Drama, is definitely an improvement, especially since the show has bowed out after five incredible and yet criminally slept-on seasons. Also, the Academy has FINALLY acknowledge the brilliance of Parks and Recreation! Sure it snubbed Ron Offerman (how dare they!) and totally ignored Community, but all in all, this year’s nomination list is a step in the right direction. Note how The Killing is NOT nominated for Best Drama, despite the Best Actress and Supporting Actress for Mireille Enos and Michelle Forbes respectively. After the whole season finale debacle, I would’ve thrown a hissy fit if they nominated the show for Best Drama. I guess the finale pissed The Academy as much as it did (most of) us.

Just like last year, I’m still going to do predictions (divided into my usual ‘Who I Think Will Win’,  ‘Who I Want To Win’ and ‘But It Could Very Well Be…’) seeing that the votes can go any which way this year as well. And just like last year, I could totally be wrong… so you might want to reconsidering making your bets based on my predictions. 🙂

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series:

– Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock.

– Matt LeBlanc, Episodes.

– JimParsons, The Big Bang Theory.

– Steve Carell, The Office

– Johnny Galecki, The Big Bang Theory.

– Louis CK, Louie

Who I Think Will Win:

Steve Carell, The Office

Why: I know I predicted him to win last year and he didn’t, and truthfully I have no idea who seems to be the voters’ favorite for this year, but Steve Carell will never be nominated in this category for The Office ever again. And he has been nominated for so many times but has never won, so I hope the voters will do him a solid and give him the statue. It’d be a bittersweet victory for him, and I think we know he’ll give a good acceptance speech.

Who I Want To Win:

Matt LeBlanc, Episodes

Why: Well, it’d be nice to see Joey Tribbiani won the Emmy for playing Matt LeBlanc. 🙂 Besides, Episodes is such a funny show and truthfully, Matt is half the reason why the show is so great. The other half is of course British imports Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig.

But It Could Very Well Be… Jim Parsons. After all, didn’t he win this last year? (Did he win last year? My memory’s not what it used to be).

Winner: Jim Parsons

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series:

– Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie.

– Tina Fey, 30 Rock.

– Laura Linney, The Big C.

– Mellisa McCarthy, Mike & Molly.

– Martha Plimpton, Raising Hope.

– Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation.

Who I Think Will Win:

Laura Linney, The Big C

Why: Well let’s see, she plays a mother and housewife with stage 4 melanoma (heavy), and she makes us all not only sympathize with her but at times, frustrated at her stubbornness and unwillingness to share the burden with her family. Sure, season 1 was a bit shaky but she gets better and better. And plus, she plays a woman with terminal cancer. This is the kind of role that will almost guarantee you an Emmy.

Who I Want To Win:

Amy Poehler, Parks and Recreation

Why: I know she was my pick last year, and she lost, but I’m still rooting for her this year simply because Parks and Recreation was so so good last season. Even after being pushed to mid-season, it didn’t fail to steal everyone’s hearts. And Amy Poehler was amazing, especially considering she was pregnant for half the season. And if she won, I would not hate the Academy so much for not nominating Ron Offerman.

But It Could Very Well Be… Tina Fey. 30 Rock had a really fantastic season, and Fey was outstanding as always. Not to mention, they did a live episode, and they nailed it!

Winner: Melissa McCarthy

Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series

– Timothy Olyphant, Justified.

– Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire.

– Hugh Laurie, House.

– Michael C. Hall, Dexter.

– Kyle Chandler, Friday Night Lights.

– Jon Hamm, Mad Men.

Who I Think Will Win:

Steve Buscemi, Boardwalk Empire

Why: Since there’s no Brian Cranston to win again this year, Steve Buscemi seems to be the front-runner in this category, especially since he did win the Globes for Boardwalk Empire last January. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love him in Boardwalk Empire?

Who I Want To Win:

Timothy Olyphant, Justified

Why: Oh this category is hard because I’m definitely torn between him and Kyle Chandler, who very well deserve an Emmy since he made me cry so many times during the last season of Friday Night Lights. But at the end… my undying devotion for Timothy Olyphant, and the fact that he is indeed a god (ohhh, Timothy Olyphant…), wins out. I mean, just look at him! If the voters are like me, he totally has this in the bag.

But It Could Very Well Be… Jon Hamm. He hasn’t won once, so maybe now that this category is Brian Cranston-less, he actually has a chance.

Winner: Kyle Chandler. I did not predict this, but hell yeah Coach Taylor!! Well deserved!

Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series

– Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights.

– Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife.

– Kathy Bates, Harry’s Law.

– Marisa Hargitay, Law & Order SVU.

– Mireille Enos, The Killing.

– Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men.

Who I Think Will Win:

Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife

Why: I don’t watch the show but judging from what I read in various medias, its second season was exceptionally good and apparently Margulies knocked it out of the park every time. And everyone, present company excluded, does love this show.

Who I Want To Win:

Connie Britton, Friday Night Lights

Why: Since I didn’t pick Kyle Chandler as my favorite to win, I better do Friday Night Lights a solid and pick her for this category. 🙂 And like Steve Carell, this will be her last chance to win in this category for Friday Night Lights. She deserves it.

But It Could Very Well Be… Mireille Enos. I know that some TV blogger (forgot who) called Enos’ Sarah Linden as The Worst Cop on TV (and I happen to agree with that blogger), but critics seem to dig her performance in The Killing. Besides, she didn’t write the show. Linden’s ineptitude cannot be blamed on her.

Winner: Julianna Marguiles

Outstanding Comedy Series:

– Big Bang Theory.

– Modern Family.

– Glee.

– 30 Rock.

– The Office.

– Parks and Recreation.

Who I Think Will Win:

Modern Family

Why: It did win last year despite Glee’s domination at other award shows, and unlike Glee that declined in quality in its second season, Modern Family continues to stay strong and gave us a really hilarious season. And 30 Rock did win at least twice in this category so the same fate could befall this show.

Who I Want To Win:

Parks and Recreation

Why: Since Community wasn’t even nominated (boo!), I want my second favorite comedy to win this category and show everyone else how it’s done. Even with a shorter season, we got so many great episodes last season: Ron and Tammy 2, Andy and April wedding, the one with the snake juice, the season finale with the passing of Li’l Sebastian… honestly, why don’t more people watch this show?

But It Could Very Well Be… 30 Rock. Like I said before, they had a really good fifth season and the only show in the category that actually dared to do a live show. So yeah, Tina Fey and crew can win again this year.

Winner: Modern Family

Outstanding Drama Series:

– Boardwalk Empire.

– Dexter.

– Friday Night Lights.

– The Good Wife.

– Game of Thrones

– Mad Men.

Who I Think Will Win:

Boardwalk Empire

Why: It won the Globes, it’s executive-produced by Martin Scorsese, and it’s on HBO. And plus, with Mad Men not returning until next year, this freshman drama is more fresh in everyone’s mind. It’s not as well-written as Mad Men in my opinion, but considering the powerhouse performances of the actors and how much Emmy voters love HBO, it can totally win.

Who I Want To Win:

Friday Night Lights

Why: Because this show is still the best show on television, even though it has wrapped its fifth and final season. And because I bawled like a baby watching the series finale, and continued to cry for days after. Because the people of Dillon, Texas has stolen the hearts of everyone who has ever decided to watch it. And finally, because clear eyes, full hearts can’t lose. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, get the DVDs!)

But It Could Very Well Be… Game of Thrones. I didn’t see it, but apparently everyone raved about it.

Winner: Mad Men

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series:

– Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Modern Family.

– Chris Colfer, Glee.

– Jon Cryer, Two and A Half Men.

– Ty Burrell, Modern Family.

– Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family.

– Ed O’Neill, Modern Family.

Who I Think Will Win:

Chris Colfer, Glee

Why: Ryan Murphy pretty much dedicated most of season 2 on Chris Colfer’s Kurt Hummel, and he did pretty much nail it every episode. While some people are getting a little sick of him, I have a feeling award voters still love him. After all, he did win the Globes…

Who I Want To Win:

Ty Burrell, Modern Family

Why: Honestly, I love all the Modern Family guys and I don’t know how Emmy voters can choose between all four of them in the same category (which is why I think this year Colfer might win). But ultimately, Phil made me laugh so hard last season, and he’s too damn adorable so I gotta go with Ty Burrell. I wish they all could win though, wouldn’t that be something?

But It Could Very Well Be… Eric Stonestreet.  He won last year, and Cameron was still hysterical last season, so he could win this again.

Winner: Ty Burrell, hells yeah!

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series:

– Jane Lynch, Glee.

– Betty White, Hot In Cleveland.

– Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live.

– Sofia Vegara, Modern Family.

– Julie Bowen, Modern Family.

– Jane Krakowski, 30 Rock.

Who I Think Will Win & Who I Want To Win:

Sofia Vergara, Modern Family

Why: I am in love with this lady! 🙂 And seriously, she’s the best thing in Modern Family, and everyone practically raved about her performance last season. Not to mention, Jane Lynch is hosting this year and hosts rarely win (see: Neil Patrick Harris), and out of all the nominees Vergara’s got the most buzz.

But It Could Very Well Be… Betty White. America’s not as obsessed with her as they did last year, but she’s still got enough clout to actually take home an Emmy in this category.

Winner: Julie Bowen

Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series:

– Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones.

– Josh Charles, The Good Wife.

– Alan Cumming, The Good Wife.

– Walter Goggins, Justified.

– Andre Braugher, Men of A Certain Age.

– John Slattery, Mad Men.

Who I Think Will Win:

Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones

Why: I don’t watch the show, but man is it popular! Not only does it have die-hard fans who would probably start a riot if he didn’t win, but the whole time Game of Thrones was airing, the social media was buzzing with praises for this man’s performance. So I’m guessing, he’ll probably win this one.

Who I Want To Win:

Walton Goggins, Justified

Why: Okay, the fact that Justified wasn’t nominated for Best Drama baffled me because last season was incredible, but fine, I’ll let it go as long as either this man or Timothy Olyphant gets some Emmy love. Walton Goggins was brilliant as Boyd Crowder, and last season he brought his A-game in every episode. And since I didn’t actually see Game of Thrones, I have to root for this guy.

But It Could Very Well Be… Alan Cumming. Speaking of brilliance, this man never fails to impress me. I don’t watch The Good Wife but I know he must’ve been amazing in it. He’s Alan Cumming!

Winner: Peter Dinklage

Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series:

– Christina Hendricks, Mad Men.

– Margot Martindale, Justified.

– Archie Panjabi, The Good Wife.

– Christine Baranski, The Good Wife.

– Michelle Forbes, The Killing.

– Kelly MacDonald, Boardwalk Empire.

Who I Think Will Win:

Kelly MacDonald, Boardwalk Empire

Why: Well Boardwalk Empire seems to be the favorite this year, it’s up for I think 19 nominations, so miss MacDonald is definitely a shoe-in. And besides, she was great as oh crap I don’t remember the name of her character… but yeah, that woman. 🙂 Sorry. It’s been a while. But yeah, she was great as whoever-her-character’s-name-is. And the Emmy voters do love this show.

Who I Want ToWin:

Christina Hendricks, Mad Men

Why: She’s Joan Holloway. She’s awesome. And just like Emma Stone, I totally have a girl-crush on the fabulously voluptuous Christina Hendricks. And Joan got some pretty good storylines in season 4, so I think it’s not a stretch that I want her to win.

But It Could Very Well Be… Archie Panjabi. She did win last year, didn’t she?

Winner: Margo Martindale

Golden Globes Red Carpet Report: The Bold, The Beautiful and The Bizarre (Oh, and The Boys!)

Now that you’ve all seen The Golden Globes and read the highlights, it’s time for us to focus on what really matters: the red carpet fashion. This is what award season is all about, people, indulging on our favorite pastime of drinking wine and judging people. And by people, I mean unsuspecting celebrities walking the red carpet and hoping against all hopes that Joan Rivers will not tear them a new one the next day.

Since the Golden Globes is where movie and TV stars collide, there were a LOT of looks and red carpet photos to sort through before I could make my choices on Best and Worst Dressed of the night. I’m bound to miss a few amazing or atrocious looks, so please understand that I’m doing the best I can. 🙂 With that in mind, let’s get straight to the celebs, shall we?

The Beautiful:

Hailee Steinfeld

She’s only fourteen but my god, she’s stunning! I don’t really know who she was wearing, but I have to give her stylist props for remembering that she is fourteen. That beautiful white halter dress is very age-appropriate, and her minimal make up is fresh and youthful.

Dianna Agron in J. Mendel and Cathy Waterman Jewelries

This Glee star gets it right all the time. She wowed us all with her Carolina Herrera gown at the Emmys, and now in this blush J.Mendel she just looks so ethereal and beautiful. The Cathy Waterman necklace around her neck adds a touch of old Hollywood glamor, and overall she just looks like a breathtaking porcelain doll.

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf

I think this woman is probably the most beautiful woman on the face of the earth. She’s pregnant right now but looks as slim as she did in Black Swan. I hate her. 🙂 The pink Viktor & Rolf dress looks perfect, and I love the rose accents and strawberry-colored clutch.

Heather Morris in Lorena Sarbu

When I saw her walking down the red carpet, I was blown away by little miss Brittany S. Pierce. Wow, she looks amazing. Love that sparkly, champagne-colored dress, love her hair and make up and most of all, love her attitude. Work it, girl!

Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

Somewhere in Los Angeles, Macaulay Culkin is weeping. His former lady love looks absolutely stunning in this emerald Vera Wang gown, bringing just enough drama and class to turn everyone’s heads. Hell, even the guy behind her is checking her out.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

Wearing this year’s IT color “honeysuckle pink”, this Modern Family star looks absolutely muy caliente on the red carpet, prompting Kelly Osbourne to gush as she watches her from E’s Glam Cam 360. She may lost the Globes to Jane Lynch, but she’s a big winner on the carpet for sure.

Nicole Kidman in Prada

New York’s Magazine Fug Girls may think this cream Prada gown is boring, but in my opinion Nicole Kidman looks fantastic. She definitely has the body to carry off such a sleek, beautiful dress, and even though she towers over her husband Keith Urban, she still looks incredible as she poses for the cameras.

Best Dressed of The Night:

My pick for Best Dressed Celeb of 2010, Olivia Wilde is definitely on her way to becoming the best dressed celeb of 2011 in this dramatic and fabulous Marchesa gown. I usually don’t like elaborate dresses, but man, she can carry it off. She even jokes that she can eat a cheeseburger in that thing. Too bad she doesn’t eat meat, though.

The Bold (Okay, Mostly Bad):

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta and Lorraine Schwartz jewelries

InStyle Magazine loves this look a lot, but for some reason this Glee star reminds me of a cupcake in that giant ruffly Oscar De La Renta gown. It’s just a little too much. Sorry, Lea.

January Jones in Versace

She is the face of Versace this year, so I get that she has to wear a Versace gown, but I’m so not sure about this “bondage” dress. Her boobs just look tortured, and not in a good way (is there a good way for boobs to look tortured?). Oh Miss Jones. First there was that polarizing cone bra mullet dress at last year’s Emmy. Now this. I’m thinking you and Versace don’t get along as well as you think you do.

Emma Stone in Calvin Klein and Van Cleef & Arpels and Bvlgari jewelries

Nylon Magazine LOVES this look and thinks that Emma Stone is the best dressed of the night, but I beg to differ. Anybody else thinks she looks like a piece of fruit in that sherbet-colored Calvin Klein dress? She does have the body for it but man, that color with her newly blond hair just don’t work. She has to stay blond for Spider-Man, but I’m thinking she can chuck the dress and swear never to go down that path again. I still love her though.

Julianne Moore

Julianne Moore’s dress is so wacky, even InStyle doesn’t want to admit she was ever on that red carpet. So far I haven’t gotten a clue as to who actually designed that pink insanity, but when I have more info I’ll definitely update this post. But I mean, really, do we need to explain further why this dress is atrocious? Gotta love Moore though, she really knows how to bring the crazy.

Heidi Klum

Yes, Heidi, we get that the 70s is making a comeback, but are you kidding me, woman? That dress, the bow thing in the middle, the stack of bangles (best jewelries, InStyle? Really?), the thigh-high slit… I’m sorry, but no. Just no.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad and Harry Winston Jewelries

I’m going to let New York Magazine’s Fug Girls to describe this dress to you: “J. Lo appears to be wearing a cape made of a bridal veil” and my favorite: “She is wearing a glittery, see-through poncho, you guys. A PONCHO. It is crazy unflattering and also just plain old crazy.” Couldn’t have said it better myself. (Actually, I tweeted: blech, J-Lo’s dress, so I know I didn’t say it better).

Tilda Swinton

If some other actress wore this to the red carpet, I’d probably be absolutely hating it. But it’s Tilda Swinton and this is actually right up her alley. It kind of what makes me love her. I’m still not sure if that’s an oxford shirt tucked in a skirt or an actual dress, or really who made the whole thing for her but it’s all so very Tilda, and you gotta love her for always bringing the crazy and unexpected.

Christina Hendricks in Romona Keveza and Chopard jewelries

Oh Joan. You know I love you and hate doing this to you, but seriously, girl, you need to tone it down a little when on the red carpet. The red dress, the giant flower right by your face, along with your boobs and voluminous red hair… well it’s just all a little bit too much. Sorry, darling.

Jane Fonda in George Hobeika

I know shoulder pads are totally in right now, but this dress just looks so Star Trek-y to me that I don’t think it suits Ms Fonda very well. I’m pretty sure it doesn’t suit anyone very well, unless it’s Zoe Saldana, as she walks the carpet in character as Uhura, Spock’s girlfriend. Is George Hobeika just an alias for George Takei?

Worst Dressed of The Night:

Halle Berry in Nina Ricci and Harry Winston Jewelries

New York Magazine’s Fug Girls once again nailed it on the head when they described Ms Berry’s look as: “From the neck up, she looks amazing. From the neck down, she looks like the rest of her dress got mauled off by a bear.” Amen to that. Halle Berry, what were you thinking? This is worse than when you showed up on the red carpet wearing a bikini top. I mean, people were whistling at you on the red carpet, and we fear it might have been sarcastic. No, darling. You are way too beautiful and elegant to show up at an event like this in your underwear. Please don’t do this to us.

The Bizarre:

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

There were plenty of crazies on the Globes red carpet, but Helena Bonham Carter is definitely the reigning queen of whack last night. Where to begin? Everything about her look was purposely wacky, from the crazy hair to those two different shoes. God bless her. She makes the red carpet so much fun to watch. No wonder Tim Burton is “the father of her bastards” (her words, not mine), she definitely looks like a character in his movies (which, incidentally, she always is).

The Boys:

We love a guy who is not afraid to wear studded tuxedo. You go, Artie!
